Q&A
What is this game?
We're your typical stranded-on-a-deserted-island game, but the only malicious, mysterious force holding them here is you. In other words, your characters are trapped here by simple bad luck. They can try to leave at any time, but there's no guarantee they'll get home.
Wait, what does that mean?
If your character leaves, they might stumble into a Pocket Canon World. This is a part of Faery that resembles another canon (or maybe even their own!) but which is not the actual canon world. Because it is a part of Faery, they will keep all of their memories of Burby.
Characters make it back to their Actual Canon Worlds when you drop them. Most conveniently, they will return to the point they originally left, and if they remember what happened to them in Faery, it will be only like a dream.
Are these Pocket Canon World events mod-run or player-run?
They are largely player-run, although occasionally there may be game-wide Pocket Canon events.
Are you journal-based or community-based?
We are community-based, with everything being posted to
stepsideways. Your characters have the option to find/buy/barter for a computer and access Burby's notoriously unreliable internet service, but this isn't necessary. You can post action threads/logs or voice/text/video entries from the internet.
Why do it like that?
Not all characters come from worlds that have technology. This makes posting and interacting easier for players who aren't comfortable handwaving the learning curve or having all their journal posts be some kind of accident.
What kind of interactions count towards activity?
Just about everything! If it is an interaction between two or more in-game characters, it may be used towards activity check, be it on the main comm or in personal journals. Characters maintaining 'voicemail/action' posts to aid interaction between characters is encouraged, and will count towards your activity.
What about entry tags?
Please add a tag for your character (canon - character name) to every entry you comment in or make in the community. (The better to then go back and stalk everything a character has ever done!)
Can I have my character keep memories from another game?
This will be taken on a case-by-case basis. If you wish to app a character with cast in the game, this first must be approved by the other cast members. If the cast does not agree with having a character with previous game history, we will ask you to re-submit your application with this history removed. In the case of OCs or characters without casts, simply go ahead and add the previous game history into the character history section of your app. Please be advised that we will expect your character personality to explain any changes in your character do to previous game history that may be read as OOC behaviour.
Can I have an original character?
Yup! We love OCs!
What about a genderswapped AU version of _____?
AU versions will be accepted on a case-by-case basis, similar to previous game history. It must be discussed and approved with any members of existing cast, and the character must be a fully fleshed out individual with complete history and character personality separate from the canon version of their character.
Where's the Friend Add list?
A Friend Add list is not maintained; it's too much trouble for mods and players to keep up. You can read journal entries through
stepsideways' member list.
What if I hate the community's layout?
You can view the community in your own layout, actually! Go to Organize > Manage Account > Display, and scroll down to the option that says "Journal View Stye." Select "My Own Style." Reading the community's friends list will be just like reading your own, except you don't have to worry about maintenance. Unless you want to, in which case you are also welcome to friend people manually.

I was curious because some people are just linking posts they've made as evidence of their activity, and I wasn't sure what category such things would fall under. (Or if you could hypothetically use two threads from the same post.) I guess I'm not clear on what separates a log from an action thread or a journal thread. Is a log simply a post you've made, and threads are from posts you've tagged into?
SORRY FOR THIS LONG QUESTION.
SUPER BELATED ANSWER
You can use two threads from the same post for activity, as long as they're with different people. You can also use a post as activity, even if none of the threads are quite long enough to make it (though if you only respond once to several threads in the post, that's a problem).
Question!

Also, would there be any problem with bringing in a seventeen-year-old who currently looks seven. And who would be attempting to keep everyone thinking hes only as old as he looks.

And no, no problem with that at all!
